Cory Adair, LICENSED LEB ELECTRICAL, EPA HVAC TECH

Comfort Specialist

Home Comfort Heating and Air Conditioning Inc.

Cory was released from the Oregon State Penitentiary in August 2022 after completing the HVAC training program through the Oregon Department of Corrections (Oregon State Penitentiary’s physical plant) earning both his electrical license and journeyman certificate. While still inside, he learned about Opportunity Oregon and submitted his application, recognizing the importance of connecting early with reentry support.

Upon release, Cory worked closely with Opportunity Oregon to prepare his resume and to identify employment that aligned with his skills and goals. Within two weeks, he was hired by a local HVAC company — a transition that allowed him to immediately apply the technical knowledge and hands-on training he gained inside OSP. His work ethic and professional growth have since led to multiple promotions, and he now serves as a Comfort Specialist Estimator for residential HVAC, earning excellent pay, benefits, and performance bonuses.

Cory’s journey represents the power of preparation, opportunity, and community support in successful reentry. He has since purchased his first home, a new vehicle, is married and raising his 16 year old daughter. Today, Cory uses his lived experience and professional success to advocate for justice-involved individuals pursuing technical trades and employment after release.

As a member of the Opportunity Oregon Executive Board, Cory brings first-hand insight into effective in-prison workforce training, fair chance hiring, and mentorship for individuals transitioning back into Oregon communities. His voice helps shape Opportunity Oregon’s strategies for bridging the gap between corrections, employers, and sustainable careers.
